Living in Swansea


With it’s expansive beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife, Swansea is a fantastic choice for your University life. Other students certainly think so anyway as it was voted 4th in the ‘Whatuni student choice awards’ for 2017! Not only that, Swansea University was voted ‘Welsh University of the Year’ by the Sunday Times good University Guide along with many other accolades to its name.

What do you want from a University?

If the answer is, Great Career prospects, the chance to meet friends for life, a calming atmosphere & nights out to remember (and sometimes forget!), Choose Swansea. The University has been ranked 15th in the UK and top in Wales for producing excellent candidates capable of graduating into further study or securing a workplace within 6 months of graduating. Swansea regularly wins awards for it’s exciting nightlife and events. The infamous Welsh Varsity challenge and festival style Summer ball are to name a few! Wind Street is the place to be when you want a night out but if you fancy kicking back and relaxing, you can choose from one of Swansea’s award winning beaches or parks. Imagine getting out of class and walking across the road for a beach barbeque? Well that can be a reality! Why go anywhere else?

To add to this Swansea is currently undergoing some exciting changes and plans. A regeneration project will see the city linked up to the marina with new shops, a hotel and arena as well as more living space. There’s even talks for a cable car, zip-wire & toboggan ride! Swansea University have also just secured a brand new free bicycle scheme running from the Bay Campus to singleton so you can cycle between campuses for free.

The following map highlights area’s in Swansea that are quite popular with students and have a higher density of student accommodation available. Brynmill & Uplands are quirky area’s, ideal for Singleton Students. Uplands in particular is quite vibrant with modern bars, restaurants and shops. Sandfields is great for beach lovers with most streets only being a 5 minute walk away to the beautiful Swansea Bay. The city centre and Sandfields is a great area if you have a mix of Bay & Singleton Students. St Thomas and Port Tennant are ideal for Bay Campus students. Both the Bay campus and city centre are usually only a 10 minute journey away. Lastly, the Marina and Sketty area’s are normally a little more pricey and are better for students who want a quieter life.
